Advanced Bobath Course

Course Aim

The aim of this course is to strengthen senior clinicians’ ability to assess and facilitate patients with complex neurological impairments using the Bobath Concept. Through immersive, small‑group, hands‑on learning, participants will refine advanced clinical reasoning and goal‑directed practice.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, and in relation to the complex and severe ABI cohort, participants will be able to:

1.      Apply knowledge of neural control and movement efficiency in order to clinically reason priorities for treatment in non-ambulant patients.

2.     Demonstrate advanced clinical reasoning skills in the assessment, treatment and management of neurological patients using the Model of bnb Bobath Clinical Practice (MBCP).

3.     Integrate considerations from best available literature in management of complex hypertonicity and head/neck/eye presentations.

4.     Strengthen and implement high level facilitation skills including:

·        Manual handling / hands on facilitation skills

·        Environmental setup and equipment use

Course Outline

Eligibility

  • Registered with AHPRA as a Physiotherapist
  • Basic Bobath Course completion

Accreditation

  • Participants will be awarded an overall course certificate of completion from the Australian Bobath Training Association (ABTA).

Meet your Educator

Dr Kim Brock

Kim brings more than three decades of clinical and teaching experience, with a foundation in neurological rehabilitation beginning with her first Basic Bobath Course in 1990. She completed a PhD at La Trobe University in 2000 on "Funding and Evaluating Stroke Rehabilitation Services", and became a Bobath Tutor in 2001. With an ongoing commitment to excellence, Kim qualified as an Advanced Course Bobath Tutor in 2017, a credential that reflects the highest level of expertise in Bobath Education.
